Schooling in Madrid for Digital Nomad Families
Generally, there are three types of schools in Spain.
Public schools – free education
Concertado schools – private schools funded by the government (about €3000 to €3500 per year payable in 10 monthly installments)
Private schools – may cost up to €8000 to €9000 per year
What time does school start?
If your child goes to Educación Primaria or Educación Secundaria Obligatoria schools start between 8 30 am to 9 am. If you have a child in Bachillerato, school sometimes start between 8 to 8: 15 am and ends until 2 pm to 3 pm depending on the schedule.
How is the academic environment in Spanish schools
Most schools focus on providing comprehensive, inclusive and competency-based education. What is noticeable is that the pacing in Educación Primaria or Educación Secundaria Obligatoria is bearable. My daughter will describe her experience in ESO as very chill. Things are different though in Bachillerato where students need to exert a lot of effort if they want to get to a state university.
How is Physical Education like?
Physical Education is taken very seriously in Spain. Many kids are very competitive and want to win during games. In ESO, physical education is three times a week.
